Ruby Sparks is a romantic comedy to be released this year and follows the story of Calvin (Paul Dano), a young novelist who creates a character named Ruby (Zoe Kazan) who he thinks will love him. Calvin is amazed to find Ruby, in the flesh, sitting on his couch one morning and it becomes apparent to him that he has literally willed her into existence.
I came across this movie and couldn't help but draw a parallel to the theme of architectural fiction. The plot of the movie is quite simple, however, it got me thinking about the people that 'write' the future and the notion that the future must first be written as a fiction before it exists.
Who are the 'authors' of the future and can they change the story before it becomes a tragedy?
